A four-day holiday to one of Europe’s most exciting destinations takes travellers to the Antrim coast and city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Experience Belfast’s new Titanic Belfast Experience, which commemorates the city’s fascinating industrial history, as well as the ill-fated Titanic ocean liner. This Newmarket Holidays getaway begins with a flight to Belfast, after which guests settle in to their hotels and have time to explore the city.
A Guided Tour of Belfast
With the help of a knowledgeable guide, discover Belfast’s iconic sites, such as the Belfast City Hall, still in operation since its opening day in 1906. Inside the City Hall grounds, visit the Titanic Memorial Gardens. Belfast’s Peace Walls are of special interest, built along geographic lines separating the Irish Nationalist and Unionist neighbourhoods. The first peace walls were built in 1969 following an outbreak of violence.
The Titanic Experience
The highlight of this holiday is a tour through Belfast’s new Titanic Experience, built on the very site where the Titanic was built over 100 years ago. A stroll through nine galleries and multiple dimensions of the exhibition culminates in rides, special effects and full-scale reconstructions of the story of the Titanic. Interactive features bring the tale home in an insightful manner. Guests get up close and personal with the ill-fated ship on the Shipyard Ride, travel to the ocean’s depths and learn the true legend of the Titanic in the city where it all began.
The Nine Glens of Antrim
This optional excursion on Day Three of the tour takes guests to the scenic Antrim Coast, home to the Giant’s Causeway and the legendary Nine Glens. Home of myth and magic, the nine Glens of Antrim each have evocative names and are said to weave their own magic spells. These secret places of lush green fill the senses with the sounds of water first softly churning, then falling in gripping torrents, delighting the senses. The Giant’s Causeway, featuring polygonal columns of layered basalt, is the result of lava welling up through fissures in the ground, forming a “lava plateau” over 60 million years ago. In a land steeped in myth and legend, tourists find evidence of the giant Finn McCool in the Giant’s Boot, the Giant’s Granny and the Wishing Chair.
